A developer in Binstead is looking to add more houses to its current scheme.
Planning permission was granted in 2017 to build 9 houses on Newnham Road, and now a further application has been submitted to extend the plot by 5 more.
At the moment, the 9 properties are being built and the other land is a grass paddock, but developers Planning Solutions are looking to build phase 2 of the scheme — 2x 3-bed and 3x 4-bed houses.
Agents for the development, Strickland Wright, said in planning documents the homes will be of similar character and a seamless addition to the local neighbourhood.
A road has already been built in the first part of the development for the future use of the new proposed houses.
Island Roads has conditionally agreed to plans.

seamless addition to the local neighbourhood.
Pah – the paddock is already a seamless addition to the local neighbourhood – it is the building of houses that wrecks the seamless picture that nature creates.
greedy developers again, building more benefit hutches
Another non-brownfield site? This “Garden Isle” is swiftly becoming a “Concrete Isle”.
Just to clarify a few points, firstly not greedy developers, we are self builders a couple in our 50,s, who purchased our plot from planning solutions, this is our house, now complete, my partner and i have worked all our lives and saved to buy this plot and build our dream home, its been an horrendous hard slog as our neighbours would tell you, 7 days a week till 8 at night fitting in full time jobs, certainly not “benefit hutches” the other 8 plots being developed are all people the same as us, the site benefits the area as it was an absolute overgrown eyesore before, hasn’t been a paddock in years, now there is a small development of tastefull individual properties, the field at the back is for only 5 more houses of the same, hardly pennyfeathers!!! We also had to pay 5.5k contribution to the council for affordable housing, so putting something back into the community!
Kudos for destroying more green land. More environmental destruction for the benefit of your sad little ego.
What the hell is wrong with you? What a nasty bitter individual you must be, what part in working hard all your life to achieve a goal equates to a sad little ego? You need to take a long look at yourself
I think that is a very bitter comment Pepe. The couple in question contribute a lot to the community and this has nothing to do with ego. You really are small minded. I think it’s you that is sad and it’s coming over as jealous. Well I for one commend this couple. Reaping the rewards of years of hard work.
@ Carol & @ Tracey
I REALLY hit a sensitive nerve with you two, didn’t I? That’s what happens when the truth is dished out to people with sad little egos.
And yes, it IS an ego thing. This is nothing more than a pathetic project to demonstrate your “superior” social status, damage the wildlife, and make a quick buck or two. It’s simple psychology.
nah not really saddo
Pepe your are a sad sad person.
Why shouldn’t people who work hard and have ambition take this amazing opportunity to build a beautiful home! Why is that any different to doing a house up! The plots would have been sold off regardless so why pick on people and try to belittle them to make your big fat ego Grow even bigger!
BITTER? JEALOUS? HAHAHA WHAT A P>>>K
I live in a HUGE 5 bedroom house, what have I got be jealous of, exactly? Not to mention I didn’t destroy any wildlife, or the environment. Unlike you, darling.
£5.5 Paid to the council for affordable housing woop woop
Fair point, but someone will be making a killing for the plot you have purchased along with the rest up there.
They don’t give a flying f@@k about what it does to nature etc!!!!
MONEY MONEY MONEY
Do you work for free ? Why do people expect house builders to .
why would I be making a killing? its my home which has taken me 30 years of hard graft to get, maybe your life is about money, mine is to finally have a home I can eventually enjoy my retirement in after working full time since i was 16 stop being so bitter
and by way not one tree or hedge has been removed we have also planted 15 trees on our plot alone, a pond has been installed at the bottom of the site for drainage and frogs newts etc we already now have ducks on it, we also have installed an air source heat pump for our water and heating, so no fossil fuels used, so I reckon Im probably doing a darn site more than you for the enviroment
I know personally the couple that live in one of the properties. Both hard working individuals who have worked endlessly for many years to build their dream home. They are very much aware of the surroundings and in touch with nature themselves so this is an incorrect statement. They are not benefit hutches you haven’t based this on fact just assumption.
Benefit hutch??? Hilarious, I love the comments on here and the County depressed, makes my day, everyday.
Yes I agree life would be so boring without sad trolls like pepe
Thanks pumpkin, but life WOULD be better without morons like you who need to destroy the island’s precious green space, for your sad little ‘social status’ ego.
Pepe the fact you have just bragged about your HUGE 5 bedroom house! just proves
how materialistic you are. What do you think was there before your “HUGE house” …….?
Fewer people like you destroying the Island, that’s what. And materialistic? Oh please darling, you probably have 15 pairs of shoes, 200 dresses, and handbags, purses, 4 tons of makeup.
Oh, and I’ve also noticed ALL your comments are down-voted. 🙂 Shows how popular you are.
Island Roads has conditionally agreed to plans
What gives them rights to give planing for anything
The law .
These houses are not for the young island families that need housing
Developers must have discovered one missed green space around Ryde which was not earmarked for ruination.
To say the site was an eyesore is tosh. People deliberately allow land to grow in, or become a fly tip, so as when planning is asked their is less opposition from those living nearby fed up with the spoiled land. Tis a ploy.
To the wildlife it is of little consolation that their hedge, and tree and grass homes are bulldozed and flattened. Yet they have no voice, so the thousands of tiny live crushed, burnt, and now homeless don’t matter to the selfish.
You clearly haven’t even seen the site because you are talking rubbish, it has all trees preserved a pond built for wildlife nothing bulldozed or flattened, the land was part of an old 400 year old cottage garden which has been beautifully restored instead of a crumbling wreck. All homes built pay a large charge to the council for affordable housing,
Island Girl, to be fair I haven’t seen the site and clearly it is not where I thought it to be.
Just so sick of every little bit of green space being taken and built upon. So glad you have a pond and kept the trees.
Hope you will be happy there, and if you really help and care about wildlife then you deserve to be.
Sorry for venting anger on this issue, really sick about Ryde being destroyed and just saw this as yet another green lung gone.
Maybe if they were building affordable 1 and 2 bed housing but 3 and particularly 4 beds not needef and as they appear to have already got a road for phase 2 it would appear they had already assumed planning permission would be granted but hey just speculating!!
Well Garry if you knew anything you would know that the road is an access road to the houses that are already being built , the houses are all owned by islanders and every homeowner on the site has paid a large fee to affordable housing so your speculating is pure rubbish
Let me guess…… everyone going on about our lovely green land/island must live in mud houses As they care so much. Or are they just hypocrites.
Or just supremely more intelligent than you. Tw@
And your reply shows what a fantastic upstanding member of the community you must be. As soon as anyone feels the need to lower themselves to insult another person clearly isn’t “winning” the argument. I hope you have a wonderful Day.
As a child I remember going to Binstead lodge farm just off newham road today it’s covered by a thousand houses .and these people that live there don’t want nine more if those houses had not been built where would all you complainers live ?
If there are any more trees coming down in Binstead let me know. Woodburner needs feeding
