The new overnight pay and display parking charge is being rolled out across the Island this month.
Over the next 3 weeks, the Isle of Wight Council will be updating signs and ticket machine software to accommodate the new £1 fee.
Motorists are advised to check the tariff board or ticket machine signage as these will be changed to indicate overnight charging has started.
It is estimated the new on and off-street overnight parking charge will generate around £147,500 to help fund services.
The introduction of a night-time fee is not unique to the Isle of Wight with many other local authorities operating an overnight tariff.
The council is reminding residents who live within 200 metres of a pay and display car park that they can purchase a discounted permit to park there for £165 per year — less than £3.20 per week.

More money generated for the council to waste
they won’t be funding services, just rinsing more money off the people to fund their wage rises and pension contributions, nothing more, nothing less.
Wow, that’s a lot of money. How much of that was lost in the failed implementation earlier in the year then? Could have been casing in the wonga by now if the last implementation wasn’t messed up.
Another encouragement for people to “support the High Street economy” – first of all Sundays, then Weds afternoons, now night-time.

probably, by enforced permit parking on all but private roads, pay an extortionate rate for an un-guaranteed parking space.
Car tax gone, car insurance gone up, council gone up, water bills going up now this !!!! Bloody stupid.. but yet all the idiots on the roads are left !!!
Ohh and no road works get done on time
They need the money, how else can they they fund the back handers paid out to a lot of contractors!!

Am I being a “bit dim”, but, are the IoW Council introducing these overnight charges in stages, or are they updating the payment machines over a period of time, and then charges are introduced islandwide on a common date?
Also, good luck with the tariff boards on Shanklin esplanade. The on-street parking (pay and display) boards were removed in March 2018 when the last set of general parking charges were introduced, and have not been replaced. This causes a lot of confusion for visitors to the Island, especially Blue Badge holders. Blue Badge holders do not have to pay for on-street pay-and-display parking, but our Council have removed the on-road signage which clarifies this. I am aware of multiple Badge Holders who have paid for their parking erroneously. Good one. IoW Council – now you are taking money illegally from disadvantaged people!

Might we know the cost of upgrading all the ticket machines involved? I know the cost to be horrendous whenever there has been a coinage change. PLUS the cost of reproducing, and fixing, all the display boards? Not to mention the cost of extra wardens to work at night, which will be interesting in the middle of a cold dark winter.. Really?
I hope now they will open a public loo at the west end of Ventnor Esplanade.

Out of town places with free parking, sadly people working in town places will be out of work due to a greedy council, because rest assured £1 in 2019 ,but £2 or more on 2020,
