The overnight appearance of a number of cameras on roads in Ryde has sparked the interest of motorists today (Tuesday).
At least 12 cameras have been erected on Brading Road, Great Preston Road, Marlborough Road and St John’s Road in the town.
There’s no need to be concerned though… an Island Roads spokesperson has confirmed to Island Echo that the cameras are in place for a traffic survey.
The spokesperson said:
“The cameras are part of a wider traffic survey being undertaken by the Isle of Wight Council to inform the feasibility designs of the proposed development at Nicholson Road and the wider area.”
The Isle of Wight Council are planning to expand the Nicholson Road industrial estate off Great Preston Road, eventually linking up the dead-end road to Smallbrook Lane.

This is disgusting. The traffic is dire there now. Britain is going through the most uncertain time since WW2 so no one knows what businesses will want to take on such industrial units. Likely it will end up all for social housing so the cash strapped council can then get council tax for 900 plus houses, to squander on ever higher wages for those who do little, whilst cutting back of the staff who DO work hard, such as footpath cutting crew, as now, tourists complain that many Islands footpaths are impassable. Verges are only to be cut five times a year, making the UK into a third world country with pot holes, scruff verges, and closed toilets. Hardy the Fifth richest land in the world as far as I can see. Hardly good for tourist trade here as many come for walking the beauty of wight, YET as the council don’t get cash for viewing free beauty, then they are allowing footpaths to be overgrown.

We live in Great Preston Road this road is so busy now , cars never keeping to the speed limit. We have had so many near misses ,trying to get of our drive , so many vehicles especially vans parked on the road, that we can’t see what is coming from the right . Building and expanding around here is going to make it 100% worse .
So at some point that would cross the railway track?
