Car enthusiasts from across the country descended on the Isle of Wight this weekend for the annual Ford Takeover event, which saw over 800 cars go on display on the outskirts of Ryde earlier today (Sunday).
The blue oval marque was the common tie between all that made their way to Beaper Farm for the ‘show n shine’, with all sorts of models on display from Mustangs to Escorts, Focuses to Fiestas and even a couple of Transit vans. There was also a tidy selection of increasingly rare Escort Cosworths.
The weekend-long event, sponsored by Green Light Insurance, has of course been a much welcomed boost to the local economy with visitors exploring different parts of the Island during their 2 or 3 day stay.
On Saturday, it was a day of driving and sightseeing under the glorious sunshine for the Ford owners who ventured right out to Alum Bay before enjoying a party at The Yarbridge Inn near Brading.
This year’s takeover attracted more vehicles than ever before with an increase of around 500 on 2017 when the event was held in Bembridge.
Island residents flocked to the showground earlier today to admire the variety of cars and the blood, sweat and tears that has gone into making them stunning showpieces. Local firms FYD Apparel, JW Autoshine and Black Art Graphics were exhibiting.
The event has been hailed a huge success and passed without incident. Thoughts are already turning to 2019 and how the event can be grown to be even bigger and better year-on-year.
