Osborne Coburg battled through to the next round of the Memorial Cup by overcoming Newport Reserves in a competitive County Town derby at Seaclose on Saturday (20th January). The Burg opened the scoring early in the 1st half through Carl Phillipson, who converted a corner (0-1). Osborne Coburg doubled their lead courtesy of a 20-yard screamer from Nick Payne (0-2). The away side’s 3rd goal came when Stephen McCarthy ran past a Port defender before slotting the ball under Port keeper Laurence Chick (0-3). 2 minutes from the full time whistle, Harri Catania – whose 1st team game at Andover Town had been postponed due to a frozen pitch – won the ball from a Burg defender before shooting across goalkeeper Williams to score the Port’s consolation goal. In the other Memorial Cup match to be played on Saturday, Sandown overcame Ryde Saints thanks to a goal from Jake Lester and a 35-yard strike from Matt Ellis.

Whitecroft & Barton Sports 2-0 West Wight In the battle between the top 2 Isle of Wight Division 1 sides, W&B beat West Wight at Sandy Lane thanks to goals from Matt Evans and Liam Harper. The Gold Cup tie between Brading Town and Bembridge was postponed 15 minutes before kick off becaused of a frozen pitch.
