Orpheus Singers’ next concert will take place on Saturday 21st March at St Mary the Virgin Church, Cowes.
The Life Eternal will feature pieces by 4 20th-century composers: Tippett, Lauridsen, Vaughan Williams and Turner. The pieces all reflect on earthly life, the end of life and, more particularly, the life to come as envisaged by Christian writers of different times and circumstances.
The pieces to be performed vary widely, from the sublime ‘Lux Aeterna’ by American composer Morten Lauridsen to gospel music in the form of five spirituals from Michael Tippett’s oratorio ‘A Child of Our Time’. The pieces by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Guy Turner are settings of poems by 17th century poet George Herbert.
Charles Paterson, Orpheus Music Director, says:
“I have chosen these pieces because they make a satisfying programme, but also because the choir will enjoy performing them”.
The choir will be joined by soloists Martin and Miranda Johnson.
The concert starts at 19:30 and tickets, priced at £10, can be obtained online at http://www.orpheussingers.org.uk/buy-tickets/ or on the door.
