Orpheus Singers’ spring concert at St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor on Saturday (6th May) promises to be a real treat.
The choir will be featuring the renowned 19th century Romantic composers – Brahms, Schubert Mendelssohn and more – who revolutionised music and the way we listen to it. Drawing on German and Austrian folklore and folk music, these astonishing composers opened our eyes and ears to a whole new world of choral music.
Ranging from the spiritual (O, for the Wings of a Dove) to to the proudly secular (Gaudeamus Igitur, Liebeslieder Walzer), the music spans the entire range of human experience. Songs about little birds and red-cheeked lasses are balanced by hymns to the Virgin and settings of religious texts.
The concert takes place at 19:30 on Saturday 6th May at St. Catherine’s Church, Ventnor PO38 1SW.
