Leading Island chamber choir Orpheus Singers is singing a concert of sacred music at Quarr Abbey on Saturday 14th May 2016 at 15:00.
The concert, staged in support of the Friends of Quarr, will feature music from a broad selection of composers, from Monteverdi (1567 – 1643) to Rachmaninov (1873 – 1943). Pieces range from well-known favourites such as Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart and Cantique de Jean Racine by Fauré to lesser-known but equally uplifting compositions including Crucifixus by 17th-century composer Antonio Lotti, arguably one of his finest works.
The second half of the concert is devoted to a complete performance of Haydn’s Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo (Little Organ Mass).Philip Fryer, who conducts the choir.
Philip Fryer, who conducts the choir said:
“Quarr Abbey will add a wonderful acoustic and spiritual setting for this inspirational concert.
We’re privileged and excited to be performing this lovely music in such a stunning location.”
There is no charge for tickets to this event, but donations are requested in support of the Friends of Quarr’s Walled Garden Project.
