Quay Arts hosted the launch of their latest exhibition on Thursday which showcases the work of some of the artists who are taking part in this year’s Open Studios event, which runs from 15th July until 25th July.
Displayed in the West Gallery this exhibition gives a taste of what is to be found in studios and other venues across the Island.
Following the pandemic when Open Studios could not take place, this popular event is well and truly back for 2022. Several groups of local artists have joined forces to exhibit their work together in local halls or other venues, whilst others remain true to the title of the event and have their individual studios open.
At Gurnard, 2 groups are exhibiting in Gurnard Village Hall – 1 over the first weekend 15th-17th and the other artists on the 23rd and 24th July. Well-known local artists showing their work at Gurnard include Tony Westmore, Chris Gillies, Susie and Steve Prangnell, Ian Wright and Gillian Nye.
Carisbrooke Priory will house another group with work by Liz Toft, Pauline Evans, Marion Large and Chris Hicks included.
Fort Victoria in Yarmouth has 2 venues where art can be viewed – The Corner Room and The Imaginarium. It is hoped that 10 artists will have work on show there.
Newport has art on show across the town, just look for the welcoming bunting. Gillian Clarke in Castle Road always has a varied display of work in various mediums including painting, drawing, collage and ceramics.
Ryde has venues around the town including Studio 13 in John Street where Peter Allen and Lyndy Moles are showcasing their work. Sandown (Carol & Guy Eades studio in Avenue Road) and Shanklin are other popular destinations-look for the red and white bunting, whilst at Ventnor several artists are showing at Church Street Arts including Susana Watts and Kimiko.
Don’t forget the more rural areas of the Island where hidden treasures of art can be found in villages and tucked away country lanes.
As usual, all artists do not have their studio open at all times, therefore check https://www.isleofwightarts.com/uploads/os-2022-rfs-1.pdf for up-to-date details.
