Young people in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13, who are interested in a career in football, are invited to an open day at Westwood Park Cowes on Tuesday (29th October).
Those coming to the open day will be able to enrol in a full time educational course in September 2025, organised by LJR Football Coaching Academy.
The full time course can lead to the following qualifications: NCFE Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Sport, and Level 2 and 3 Qualifications in Physical Training. It includes 12 hours of classroom based learning, 4 hours pitch work, together with 2 hours of pitch training and a further 2 hours of match analysis.
Outside the classroom and training, potential students would have the opportunity to participate in European football tours, be given the chance to apply for scholarships in the United States and be provided with pathways to University and professional clubs.
There will also be opportunities for students to play competitive football in competitions such as the South Youth Alliance League and the Youth FA Cup.
The course is organised by experienced Head Coach Louis Riley, assisted by Goalkeeping Coach Ed Hatt and physical fitness trainer Wayne Upton.

Head coach Louis Riley says:
“I would never tell a youngster they would make it in the professional game. Only 1 in 11 players gets looked at. It’s a 0.01% chance.
“I would simply hope those I coach get to play the best standard they can.
“It’s all down to hard work. But you never know who might be watching.
“I would like to do for football on the Island what Platform 1 has done for music.”
Those interested in attending the open day should phone 07368 886639 or email [email protected]
The Open Day starts at 15:30 and finishes at 17:30.

1 out of 11 chance??? That’s 9.09% not 0.01%…. i hope you’re not teaching them, no wonder IoW College moved away from as the provider of the football programme…..
