Due to the current restrictions, Hullabaloo will not be taking place in the usual fashion. Instead, a Hullabaloo at Home weekend event will be held on 20th-21st June for people to take part and enjoy at home and online.
Individual artists can access awards of up to a maximum of £1,000 per artwork to include all fees, materials and all costs – but artists need to apply by 30th April. The selection and number of commissions will depend on the ideas submitted, their financial requirements and commissioning of different artistic disciplines.
Hullabaloo is a discovery and exploration spectacular. It usually takes place as a celebration and participation weekend event filled with arts, community, science, environment and ecology. It has been held in the Bay area of the Isle of Wight annually since 2017.
Funding for this year’s special artists commissions has been raised thanks to Arts Council England, The Common Space and Shademakers UK.

Commission Details: Artworks must be suitable for a digital recorded or live online festival… and styles may include participatory art (for example via Zoom), street theatre performance, music, painting or sculptural and must be themed on the new Biosphere status with a response to the natural environment. The event focus is Sandown Bay. Depending on social isolation guidelines we may be able to include streams or recordings of artworks such as sand sculptures and trails.
Hullabaloo has already got substantial dance and carnival digital content so request you do not suggest ideas in these fields. Your artwork must be ready to include on 19th/20th June online event. You will retain your intellectual property rights in the artwork but agree to for ongoing digital use both at the event and any recorded content to remain online indefinitely.
