An unattended car narrowly avoided the rush hour traffic when it rolled down the main road in Wootton earlier this evening (Thursday).
The purple Peugeot 208 was seen to roll backwards down the High Street before mounting the pavement and crashing into a wall.
Luckily, no one was injured in the incident and other vehicles managed to steer clear of the runaway vehicle.
2 motorcycle cops from the mainland-based Roads Policing Unit – over for the festival weekend – were quick to attend the scene, close to the junction with New Road, shortly before 17:40.
The car has since been moved.

If you read the post again, properly….you will note the car was unattended. This means nobody was driving it. Unfortunately someone had not applied the handbrake correctly and it rolled down the hill, luckily not causing an accident and came to a stop having crashed into the wall.
You’ve proven my point
More idiots will be along soon….
There’s idiots about
Daily event now, but why?
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time could of killed children or adults, more idiots will be along soon..
More bad driving on the IW
Message for bad drivers, when parking, apply brake and leave in first gear…if your vehicle is pointing down hill, leave in reverse gear…
Maybe you should read the article just for once. Nobody was driving the vehicle – it was unattended.
What Letting You Know stated was the correct advice when parking your car so unless the car drove there by itself then someone must have parked it.
It didn’t forget to put its own handbrake on
Did you ask it? It could have been faulty.
If the car had of been a left in gear it wouldn’t of rolled away
