ONE-WAY SYSTEM NOW IN FORCE IN NEWPORT

A temporary one-way system to allow for highway improvements associated with the new ASDA development in Newport has come into force this morning (Monday).

Motorists are now only able to enter Newport from the Blackwater/Arreton direction via Medina Avenue, however traffic is still able to leave Newport via St George’s Way as normal.

Pan Lane – which connects St George’s Way to Pan Estate – has already been closed to allow the construction of a spine road, which will eventually connect with Bluebell Meadows.

According to a map released by Island Roads, all traffic exiting Morrisons/M&S must turn left, whilst traffic from St George’s Roundabout will be unable to turn right to head up towards Church Litten. Anyone exiting Clarence Road, Avondale Road or Cypress Road off Medina Avenue will need to turn left. Shide Road remains 2-way connecting to Blackwater Road.

Delays are expected as Islanders become au fait with the new arrangement, which is expected to last until the end of March 2017.
