Northwood knocked in 4 goals without reply against Vectis in the local derby at Cowes Community club on Saturday (9th March). Vectis were no doubt suffering from the after effects of their defeat against Newport in the Gold Cup on Thursday evening. Northwood opened the scoring with a flighted free kick from James Flux from around 40 yards that caught the wind (1-0). Lee McKenzie then added a 2nd for the home side from 10 yards after being set up by captain Luke Flux (2-0). 2 minutes later, Ryzi Gardener scored with an effort from outside the penalty area to give Northwood a comfortable 3-0 half time lead. Half time: Northwood 3-0 Vectis Northwood added a 4th goal on the hour mark after referee Sainsbury had played advantage following a potential penalty foul on Blackmore. Gardener then had a shot deflected into the goal by Balchin (4-0). Both sides continued to create chances for the remainder of the game, but Northwood keeper Bedding finished the game relatively untroubled. Full time: Northwood 4-0 Vectis

“I am absolutely delighted for the players , their hard work on and off pitch is now being rewarded with our 4th win in a row in all competitions, and the smiles are back on faces around this fantastic club. “Credit to Vectis , they showed glimpses of there qualities and they battled to the end and didn’t stop, but our experience and quality shone through, and the boys take all the credit for this one and we look forward to next week now.”
For Vectis, manager Reece Biedler said:
“We were well beaten today, not at the races at all, which the lads cannot excuse. “After the good performance less than 48 hours before I just think it took a lot out of the players, considering this was supposed to be a free weekend up until last week, so it was always going to be a big ask for us to go again. “Also, having to make several changes as well just didn’t have the positive effect we wanted it to. “A couple of freak early goals for Northwood in the 1st half really settled them down. They were more aggressive and clearly fresher, so credit goes to them. “We now have a couple of weeks break to recharge and go all out for our remaining fixtures.”
Northwood’s win leaves them 8th in Harwoods Division 1 with 18 points from 14 games; Vectis lie in 4th place with 27 points from 18 games.
