Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Racing Team members, Allan and Ewan Cook, Nick Earley, Joe Tracey and Andy Ward, were in action in ‘The Christmas Cracker’: the 1st round of the Brass Monkey XC Endurance Winter Series at Porridgepot Hill in Hampshire.
Winding through heath and pine woodland, the course consisted of a testing single track mixed in with swooping trails and stone fire roads.
In the Men’s 2hr category, Nick and Joe were up against some top-class riders. Nick was looking good for another podium after 3 laps but got hampered on the tough last lap and just missed out, taking a well-deserved 4th place. Joe dug in after a quick start and reeled in riders to finish 10th on the day.
Andy, riding in his first XC race, put in a fantastic performance and came home just outside the top 10, finishing 14th out of the 75 starters in the Men’s Vet 40+ category.
Juvenile, Ewan, had a hard task in the Junior Men’s category but, as always, he pushed himself to the limit to take a credible 6th place. Dad, Allan, racing in the Grand Vet 3hr race picked off riders and took another top-10-place on the day, finishing in 9th place.
The Cycle Racing Team will next compete in the next Gorrick rounds in January.

Well done lads, doing the Island proud.
4th place equals 3rd of the losers!
