Newport’s ‘Day of Christmas’ and lights switch on event is only a few days away with hundreds of people expected to watch the illuminations being turned on this Saturday evening.
The event, organised by Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council with Market Days CIC and Skates, will be even bigger this year with more family activities, markets and food stalls on The Quay, St Thomas’s Square and St James’ Square.
The special circus-themed light switch-on this year will start at 17:50.
One of those performing at the light switch-on is Chanique Green from Classique Dance Studios. Chanique said:
“This is something not to be missed! So much hard work from everyone, especially the youth superstars in the making has come together to produce something truly spectacular and jaw dropping. It really is something you wouldn’t have seen on the island before and for free, at such a magical time of year!
Jaydene Paddock from Jaydene Lee Arts, also performing said:
“Myself and my dancers are extremely excited to perform for this year’s Newport light switch on. It’s been a pleasure working with the talented groups and individuals from the island! Everyone has put in so much hard work and seeing it all come together at rehearsals it’s not to be missed”
Red Funnel Award-winning businesses Funky Pineapple Events and Sweet Charlies will be among those along the Quay where there will be a circus workshop between 13:00 – 15:00, fairground rides and snow globe. There will be characters appearing between 16:00 – 17:00 in St James Square and at 17:00 the amazing AJ Party Entertainment will warm up the crowd ahead of the switch on.
