Newport Town Centre will be transformed into a festive winter wonderland next Saturday (15th November) as the Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council hosts ‘A Magical Day of Christmas’, a free celebration for all the family.
The all-day event promises live music, walkabout entertainment, festive fun and the grand Christmas lights switch-on with Santa to mark the start of the holiday season on the Isle of Wight.
In St James’ Square, live stage performances will run from 11:00 to 18:00, featuring local acts including Greg Barnes, Long Island Stompers, Solent Swing and The Starlight Academy. Magic fans can enjoy appearances from Huxley Magic and Magic Kai throughout the afternoon.
Families will also have the chance to meet members of the emergency services and explore police and ambulance vehicles up close. Walkaround entertainment will include performers from Enchanted Isle and live magic demonstrations.
The switch-on of the Newport Christmas lights, led by Santa, will take place at 18:00 in St James’ Square.
Over in St Thomas’ Square, children can enjoy free fairground rides and games provided by Vintage Island Amusements, along with outdoor circus workshops from Wildwood Workshops between 10:00 and 17:30.
At The Parish Centre, more festive activities will be on offer throughout the day including an indoor disco hosted by AJ Entertainment, free face painting and a giant inflatable snow globe.
The Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council has encouraged residents and visitors alike to bring family and friends along for a day full of community spirit and festive cheer.
