Newport & Carisbrooke Parish Council is inviting residents to a public consultation event on Saturday 6th October at The Riverside Centre, between 10:00-14:00.

This will be an opportunity for Newport and Carisbrooke residents to understand and give feedback on proposals for additional and increased services to be provided by the Parish Council over the next 3 years.

The Parish Council recognises its key role in the regeneration of the town and providing important discretionary services – such as recreation grounds, play areas, toilets, allotments, community buildings – which are no longer provided by the Isle of Wight Council due to cuts in Government funding.

Chair of the Parish Council, Cllr Geoff Brodie, said:

“Many of my councillor colleagues and I have spent the summer examining our agreed strategic plan for the Parish. We have identified a number of additional services that we believe local residents would like us to provide.

“We want to share this with residents and get their views and support before moving forward with any changes. Our Parish Council has always been a comparatively low spending local council when one considers the other Island towns. Any change will mean an increase in our precept, but we want to be sure of residents’ support before making such a move.”

The results and feedback from the consultation event will inform the Parish Council’s budget setting process over the autumn.

Residents are welcome to come along to the event for as long as they wish. Light refreshments will be provided.
