61-year-old Roy Ward of Chapel Close, Gunville has been sentenced to 8 years in prison after admitting child sex offences dating back over 20 years.
Ward appeared before Portsmouth Crown Court this week where he was sentenced for the historic crimes against a girl who was then aged between 12 and 15-years-old.
The sexual abuse took place not only at his home, but in his car also. The victim, who is now in her 30s, was told to keep quiet.
Russell Pyne, defending Ward, asked the court to consider a suspended sentence for his client as he was a carer for his wife. But Judge William Mousley said:
“These are very serious offences. You have caused her psychological harm. You took away her innocence and that is what makes these offences so serious.
“It would be wrong to even think about imposing a suspended sentence”.
The court was told that Ward accepted he must be punished for what he did.
