Businesses in Newchurch are reminding customers that they are open as normal during the 16 days of roadworks currently underway in the village.
Island Roads are resurfacing a long stretch of carriageway through the village and out towards Winford, resulting in the closure of the road. The work has been broken down into phases with Phases 1, 2 and 3 taking place between 06:30 and 18:00 on weekdays and Phase 4, outside Newchurch Primary School, taking place between 09:30 and 14:30.
Those trying to access businesses such as Bartletts Service Station can still do so via The Downs and Knighton.
Keith Gourlay, Island Roads’ construction manager, has previously said:
“We are carrying out work in phases in order to keep disruption to a minimum, but it is simply not possible to undertake work of this nature without causing some inconvenience. We will however keep residents informed of progress and, of course, of any changes to the schedule.
“We have been out to speak to those businesses most affected and we would like to thank them for their understanding. We would like to stress to the wider community that all businesses will remain open during work”.
