Over 20 million people in the UK are classed as physically inactive. One of the reasons for this is a lack of awareness of local opportunities to be active. Energise Me has joined forces with the Isle of Wight Council and the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation to tackle the problem head on with a new activity finder.
Get Active IOW is a web-based activity finder, which will enable all sports clubs and organisations on the Isle of Wight to advertise their sessions free of charge. By making it free to promote sessions, Energise Me aims to create a one-stop shop for local residents to find activities near them.
The organisers are now calling for activity providers to add their sessions to the site. If you run sport or physical activity sessions on the Island and would like to promote what you do, upload your sessions to https://www.getactive.io/iow.
Harry Stow from Energise Me said:
“Energise Me is committed to building a happier, healthier and stronger community. We want to support activity providers on the island to raise awareness of their sessions and ultimately help local residents find activities that are right for them. We’re delighted to be working with IOW Council and IOW Sports Foundation to increase the visibility of sports clubs and activity providers across the Isle of Wight.”
Claire Beasley, trustee of the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation and Energise Me, said:
“Get Active IOW is going to make it so much easier to find out what sport and physical activities are available on the Isle of Wight. It’s easy to use and free; what more can you ask? The more clubs and organisations support it the better it will be so please start uploading your sessions!”
