The main access road connecting the Barratt Homes Bluebell Meadows development to St George’s Way in Newport has now opened.
The Isle of Wight Council has welcomed the completion of Godric Road, which runs from Staplers Road to the new roundabout by Asda supermarket.
The road has not yet been adopted by the local authority.
Council leader, Councillor Dave Stewart, said:
“I am pleased this key route is to open soon, which I know will relieve pressures some residents in the area have experienced.
“While there have been some delays, we made sure its completion was a priority.
“Working in partnership with Barratt Homes, we can now look towards more new homes being built as part of the next phase of the development.”
There is bad news for motorists though.. the road is littered with junctions and speed bumps meaning it isn’t the ideal ‘ring road’ to avoid the congestion often experienced at Coppins Bridge and Staplers Road.
