The Isle of Wight Council has launched a refreshed connect2work website aimed at encouraging users to choose sustainable travel for the daily commute.
The new site is designed to educate, engage, and assist users with improved navigation, searchability and content.
Isle of Wight Council’s active travel officer, Kayleigh Richter, said:
“The previous version of the site was great and served us well, but needed updating in terms of content and simplification. I am really confident the site will allow us to better connect with users and potential users.
“I would encourage businesses to get in touch if they would like to see the potential benefits that sustainable travel could bring for both their organisation and employees.”
The site includes a new section on campaigns and challenges that users can get involved with, as well as detailed information for employers on how the council can help with putting an active travel plan in place for your business.
The jobseeker and apprentice area of the site covers benefits such as how to access cycle loans, training, discounts, vouchers and subsidised bus travel.
The site will also highlight case studies to show how users have benefitted from choosing the sustainable travel options available.
Simon Attrill, head of business development at HTP Apprenticeship College, said:
“We are delighted the Connect2Work programme is continuing for this year. Access to affordable travel remains one of the barriers, particularly for young people starting out on their Apprenticeship. We are seeing a steady increase in the number of people using the scheme and I really hope this can become sustainable in the longer term.”
The connect2work programme aims to change the travel habits of apprentices, employees, jobseekers and employers to reduce congestion, pollution, and to promote health and wellbeing.
The project is supported by the Isle of Wight Council’s Sustainable Travel Access Fund programme, using funding secured competitively from the Department for Transport to deliver a wider programme of sustainable transport projects being delivered through to April 2020.
