Staff at Bembridge Harbour are appealing for the return of vital equipment that aids sailors into the harbour after a buoy broke its mooring earlier this week.
The harbour navigation buoy was discovered on the shore at Priory Bay, but before it could be recovered with the tide it was stripped of its light and radar reflector unit. The theft took place in the space of just 2 hours.
Although the buoy has now been recovered, it is unusable without being lit and being detected by radar systems. It is said that whoever took the components would have had to unbolt them from the buoy.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the missing parts is asked to contact Bembridge Harbour on 01983 872828.
