The National Coastwatch Institution will re-commence watchkeeping from The Needles Lookout from today (Saturday).
Having been forced to close owing to the current epidemic, the Trustees have made the decision to reopen the watch in light of Government easing of the lockdown restrictions and the return of significant commercial and leisure vessel movements.
To safeguard the health of volunteers the station will be single manned but with a remote buddy on call to assist if necessary.
The local management has a robust risk management to ensure compliance with best practice in maintaining a safe environment.
Boat owners will be able to contact NCI on VHF Channel 65 for current weather and sea state, radio and AIS checks.

Excellent organisation and amazing people doing an invaluable job Thank you
Just for the record, Coastwatch members are all volunteers, so do this work for free! No car, pension or any other perks – except the wonderful view of course …
Well done to all shame other charities dont follow instead of paying high wages and all the perks
