Major improvement is necessary at Nammet in Yarmouth, according to Isle of Wight food inspectors.
An inspection of the sandwich takeaway shop on Bridge Road at the end of January resulted in a food hygiene rating of 1 being awarded.
It was found that improvement is necessary in relation to hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of facilities.
More alarmingly, major improvement is deemed necessary with regards to the management of food safety, such as systems or checks to ensure that food sold is safe to eat.
Despite the critical inspection, the business attracts positive feedback from customers on TripAdvisor with a 4.5/5 rating.
Back in 2016, Nammet (trading as Forresters Nammet) secured a 5-star rating,
Nammet has been approached for a statement.

The owners obviously have low standards. We’ve bought sandwiches before and they’ve been awful.
Any food establishment must be very ignorant to risk getting low grades as people are already avoiding eating out due to the CV, and as cases arrive here, then such places need all the help in attracting customers.
People perhaps will think, if an establishment can’t maintain basic hygiene, then will they ignore HMG safe practices of the Corona Virus safety information.
IMO I would suggest buying and preparing your own food until this virus is dealt with as best as can be.
I’ve eaten at the nammet on many occasions and each time found my food to be above what I expected. I have never had a bad meal from them and always found the staff to be amazing. They are by far the cheapest in Yarmouth and in my opinion the best. Everyone is in titled to a bad day surely and I do not feel it reflects in their food!
A bad day does not result in a food hygiene rating of 1 being awarded.
Always found food very good and really helpful service won’t change my mind will still visit food looks very good
I’ve eaten at the nammet and I will continue to do so as its great.. Staff are friendly polite and accommodating and I will go back again and again as food is great cheap and bang on in my opinion
People ‘taking’ money from you, can do it two ways, either bully, threaten or beat it out of you, or, as most do, be pleasant, friendly, as a means of obtaining your cash.
The undoubted latter bracket here, has little to do with the fact that poor food handling is deadly and risks those ‘at risks’ peoples lives.
Most people fighting in the war, were likely nice people. Different game to health and safety of others though
