Morrisons is seeking permission from the Isle of Wight Council to build a ‘garden centre’ at its recently refurbished store in Lake, even though it has already been built.
A retrospective planning permission application has been submitted by Peacock + Smith on behalf of Wm Morrison Supermarkets seeking the retention of a new permanent structure to the west of the existing store.
The new garden centre is just 12m long and 4m wide and resembles a trolley bay. The centre is set to sell plants, pots and gardening equipment – some of which is already being sold from the main store’s foyer area at present.
Lake Parish Council has objected to the supermarket’s plans to open a garden centre citing road safety problems. The Parish Council also raised concerns about the removal of several car parking spaces. As a result of the building of the garden centre, 4 disabled parking bays have been lost but a total of 5 have been created nearby, with the loss of 5 ‘normal’ parking bays.
They’ve put it over the best places for the physically disabled to get into their store, ‘nearby’ doesn’t cut it. Why did they not put this in the original plans and apply for the permission to do it legally?
If you haven’t been to this store yet Avoid!! Very dangerous car park, generic characteristics inside and higher prices.
Indeed the car park is extremely poor in areas, especially on entry and exit, should be dealt with as a matter of urgency
