The best-selling novel on the Isle of Wight in recent years by a long way has been ‘Death On The Isle’ by M.H. Eccleston, a cozy murder mystery set on the Island during Cowes Week and now on the evening of Friday 19th May, Islanders will have a chance to meet the author himself at Medina Bookshop in Cowes.
In conversation with bookshop manager Paul Armfield, Ealing-based author Mark Eccleston will be talking about how his career has taken him from BBC journalist and producer, to TV presenter, foreign correspondent, and now a successful screenwriter and bestselling novelist.
The novels centre around Astrid Swift, a red wine-guzzling art conservator with an eye for mystery, who lives on a boat left to her by a deceased uncle. Her adventures begin in ‘The Trust, which is set in Dorset, and as with the second Isle of Wight-based title, much of the action takes place in fictional stately homes owned by the ‘English Trust’ who are described as ‘like the mafia but with cream teas’.
Well-paced, gentle and often humourous, the novels are a welcome escape from reality and hugely enjoyable for a broad readership, as proven by their growing popularity.
