Award-winning Medina Community Choir is to launch this year’s popular Classic Isle music festival with a fundraising concert in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice on Friday 19th August.
Classic Isle is now an established part of the festival calendar and brings World Class classical musicians to the Island. It prides itself on being the first boutique style classical music festival with the aim of bringing exceptional classically trained musicians from all corners of the globe to a single stage, within the intimate setting of Northwood House in Cowes.
Earl Mountbatten Hospice is proud to have been selected as the charity supported by this event which takes place on the weekend of 20th-21st August. Additionally, the Hospice is very grateful to Medina Community Choir and the organisers who have agreed to host a launch event on the Friday 19th August in aid of patients and families across the Isle of Wight.
Medina Community Choir was started by Hannah Brear in 2006 and has grown to huge success with performances at events such as the Isle of Wight Festival. Their opening concert, held between 19:00 and 21:00, will include peaceful and reflective works like Mozart’s Ave Verum and Ennio Morricone’s Nella Fantasia, right up to exciting and thrilling choral classics like the Hallelujah Chorus. This 40-strong choir will perform a range of classical masterpieces to suit every musical palette. Solos and duets will also be performed by choir director, Hannah Brear (who has performed with Lesley Garrett and Russell Watson) and Thea Callaghan who will delight with their renditions of Lakmé’s Flower Duet, Rossini’s Cat Duet and the popular modern classic, Lloyd-Webber’s Pie Jesu amongst others.
This award-winning choir is not to be missed and is honoured to be performing at the opening event of the Classic Isle festivities on this, their 10 year anniversary together since the choir was founded.
Entry fee is a suggested minimum donation of £10, to include a finger buffet. A bar will also be available. It is preferable for tickets to be booked in advance by contacting from Tina Groves on 01983 217311 or email [email protected], although tickets will also be available on the night.
