Medina Bookshop in Cowes will be clearing away its tables and making space for the debut Isle of Wight performance by one of the most feted Irish solo singer-songwriters, John Blek, on Wednesday 26th October.
The Cork native has been lauded by many for his beautifully haunting, poetic songs, and though only 34, his 7 albums and endless touring around Europe have given him the stature and respect of a veteran performer.
Surrounded by books, the literate troubadour will be in his element as his words draw heavily on the Irish lyric tradition, his songs poetic and well crafted. His live shows are thoughtful and entertaining, littered with stories and showcasing his arresting vocals and intricate guitar playing.
Bookshop manager Paul Armfield said:
“‘I’m thrilled to be having John play here, Medina Bookshop is a great space to see and hear a performer such as this, we can only fit 30 people and that closeness really allows the audience to focus in on every nuance, and be pulled in to every word of every song. There’s a connection that brings out the best in performers such as this that’s hard to recreate in larger venues.
“John Blek is the first big name on the folk/acoustic music circuit that we’re putting on, we have others lined up for next year including Alasdair Roberts in April and Chris Wood in May. We’re happy to have Red Funnel support us in these ventures, without their support it would be unfeasible.”
Starting at 19:30 on 26th October, tickets are £15 and are available from Medina Bookshop in person, their website or by calling 01983 300044.
