32 competitors took part in the inaugural pickleball tournament held at West Wight Sports and Community Centre on Friday (17th January).
It was played on a round robin basis where all play all, with each player playing a total of 8 games during the event.
The overall winners were Martine Burgess and Ian Molyneux (pictured), who beat Jan Cannon and Jason Butchers in a nail biting final. In 3rd place were Jon O’Bryan and Rob O’Connell.
Clare Griffin, Centre Manager, said:
“The popularity of this tournament event proves the growing interest in pickleball at the Centre and on the Island. Today has been a great success, and it was great to see such a buzz around the Centre with such friendly competition”.
Pickleball is an upcoming sport recently recognised by Sport England. It’s great fun and can be played by all abilities and ages.
As well as adults sessions, the centre now runs children sessions and also employs a coach.
