UPDATED: A man has been scarred for life after being slashed across the face with a razor blade whilst enjoying a night out in Ryde.
Police and Ambulance crews were called to the vicinity of Ryde High Street at around 21:30 on Saturday night after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman. The unidentified female is said to have been stopping traffic and generally causing a disturbance.
In an act of goodwill the victim approached the woman to offer any assistance, but he was assaulted.
The casualty was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital where he later received over 30 stitches to his face. He has since been discharged.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 21-year-old woman – believed to be from Shanklin – has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. She remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
UPDATE @ 11:24 – 21-year-old Catherine Whittaker, of Sandown Road, Shanklin, has been charged with possessing a bladed article, wounding with intent and assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty.
Miss Whittaker appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this morning where she was remanded in custody until 19th February.
