Seaview’s resident actor Graham Pountney, formerly starring as powerboat racer Mark Foster in ‘Howards Way’, is bringing his latest exciting professional engagement from the London stage to the Isle of Wight to headline the Ventnor Fringe Festival in August.
This is set to be the first time a full length play has been performed at the Ventnor Fringe Festival, but that’s not all – In another first there will be two full plays running alternately through the week from 10th to 15th August 2015.
The Scena Mundi Theatre Company has stunned audiences and reviewers with its repertory season. “Richard II” (Shakespeare) and “Edward II” (Marlowe) will take up residence in the Ventnor Fringe Festival’s largest venue, Trinity Church, for the whole of the festival week.
Two different treatments signal the courage and drive of Founder & Artistic Director Cecilia Dorland’s company – “Richard II” soars with the classical beauty of Shakespeare’s verse while Christopher Marlowe’s “Edward II” storms with a 1980’s rock infusion inspired by Marlowe’s edgy reputation. Stunning costumes by Penny Rischmiller, lighting by Nathalie Gunzle, choreography by the National Theatre’s Darren Royston and Dorland’s passion for verse, draw these plays together and will not fail to impress new audiences.
These shows promise to bring polished, high energy theatre from the London stage to the Isle of Wight and can only add real punch to an emerging theatre festival.
