singaboutchristmassong2Local musician Jason Paine has worked with Independent Arts’ SingAbout groups to produce a new Christmas song entitled ‘Nobody Should Be Alone at Christmas’, with all proceeds set to go back into helping socially isolated people on the Isle of Wight through the work of Independent Arts.

The song aims to highlight the benefits of Singing for Wellbeing and build awareness of social isolation in older people on the Isle of Wight, as well as showcasing the work of the SingAbout groups. Some of the song’s participants have long term conditions such as dementia, lung conditions and depression, others are recovering from stroke or heart problems. Most head along to sessions because they love how singing makes them feel.

SingAbout promotes improved health and wellbeing through singing. Groups also provide a community setting to help build new friendships and help reduce social isolation in older people on the Island.

The SingAbout family has 10 regular groups on the Isle of Wight and is now joined by SingAbout – Singing for Breathing and SingAbout for Recovery (based at St Mary’s hospital). All regular participants have been invited to sing the chorus into the song and a few brave singers have sung solo parts in the verses. Over 400 SingAbout singers have been involved in producing this song.

SingAbout Project Manager Hannah Griffiths said:

“It has been heart-warming to give our SingAbout participants the opportunity to be part of something as exciting as recording a Christmas Song. All the groups have been working hard practicing the song and the result is a real credit to them”

Nobody should be alone at Christmas time by SingAbout will be available to buy on CD and download from Friday (2nd December 2016). CDs will be available from Age UK HQ, Newport and Rutherford’s Eye Care, Freshwater.
