LOCAL SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR ROCK CHALLENGE

In just 3 weeks the 2017 Rock Challenge and J Rock tour will arrive at Southampton O2 Guildhall and 3 local Isle of Wight schools will take to the stage in what are sure to be 6 incredible evenings of entertainment.

The Rock Challenge events aim to inspire, engage and motivate young people to make healthy and positive lifestyle choices and from Monday 13th February Southampton O2 Guildhall will be taken over by more than 2000 students as they rise to the challenge for another year.

Teams of around 20 to 135 students, will have up to 8 minutes to perform their chosen theme to an audience of family, friends, VIPs, sponsors and a panel of industry professionals. Every aspect of the performance will have been devised, designed and created by the students and we will see a variety of themes from the tackling of current social issues to the retelling of real-life events or fictional pieces.

Gurnard Primary School, Lanesend Primary School and for the first time Priory School will all compete on Tuesday 14th February.

Event Coordinator, Charlotte Payne, is excited to see what schools will bring to the competition this year:

“Every year we see many different ideas and themes come to life at Rock Challenge and J Rock events across the UK. It’s inspiring to see the amount of work and time each school puts into creating their performance and the end results are testament to the determination and enthusiasm of the young people involved.

“Seeing the positive effect that Rock Challenge has on the lives on the students and teachers involved is immensely rewarding and we look forward to producing a tour which truly highlights the talent and creativity of the young people of today.”
