The programme of events that make up the annual Isle of Wight Cycling Festival is now available.
The festival gives cyclists the opportunity to get off the beaten track and experience some of the Island’s countryside. It includes a host of rides with options for all levels ranging from those for regular cyclists or the more leisurely rider.
The programme can be found online at www.sunseaandcycling.com and then clicking on ‘Programme’. It is also available in hard-copies from council help centres and leisure centres, or by contacting 01983 823070.
Sponsored by Red Funnel, Wightlink and Visit Isle of Wight, the event takes place between 5 and 27 September and includes 80 rides, with a great range of family events from fossil rides to story rides, toddler’s tea parties and Geocaching by bike.
There are also some new additions to the programme including a ‘yoga for cyclists’ ride, mountain bike coaching courses and the Around the Wight Triathlon. This joins favourites including the Wightlink Wight Challenge, Cycle the Wight and the Cycle Cinema.
Councillor Shirley Smart, Executive member for tourism, said:
“The Isle of Wight was described by Lonely Planet Magazine as one of the best destinations in the world for cycling.
“The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival is a superb opportunity to take part in numerous events across the Island that give riders the chance to experience the wonderful scenery that makes us one of the best places in the world for cycling.”
