Matt Le Tissier – popularly known to Saints fans as ‘Le God’ – is set to play at Westwood Park in May together with other former Southampton FC players who form the Ex-Saints side. The Ex-Saints will take on an Isle of Wight side dubbed ‘the Island Legends’ on 17th May. The game is being organised by Newport IW Football Club and Cowes Sports FC. Newport IW Football Club have announced:
“Newport IW Football Club are organising a Saints Legends v Island Legends game at Westwood Park on Friday 17 May. Kick off is at 19:00.The match will be organised in conjunction with Cowes Sports FC. “The game, which will generate money for Newport and our hosts Cowes Sports, will feature some of the Islands best players from the last 30 years up against a top quality team of Saints legends which will include Matt Le Tissier.”
Matt Le Tissier – who spent his entire professional career at Southampton FC, making 443 appearances and scoring 161 goals – has said:
“I’m looking forward to coming to the Isle of Wight on 17th May with the ex-Saints to take on the Island Legends, raising money to keep Newport FC going. “A big thank you for Cowes Sports for hosting.”
I take it that Newport will be ground sharing with Cowes Sports next season until the racecourse ground is ready.
