Leading international jousters are set to go head to head at Carisbrooke Castle this month as a Grand Medieval Joust returns from the 12th – 14th and 19th – 21st August.
With flags flying, and medieval melodies filling the air, the scene is set. Our highly skilled Knights, old adversaries seeking to settle a score and a newcomer looking to make his name, will gallop headlong down the tilt rail in a series of bouts throughout the day, lances poised to strike the decisive blow.
In addition to the jousts, there is a packed programme of entertainment which this year sees the addition of mounted falconry displays; combining the prowess of stunning birds of prey with expert horsemanship and the skill of the falconer. Families can immerse themselves in the pageantry of the occasion as they visit the tented encampments and meet the knights and their squires. Experience the realities of medieval life: the cooking, the carpenter using his lathe, the spectacle maker and the gruesome delights of the medieval surgeon. Our court jester will amuse the crowds and little ones can take part in hobby horse jousting and kids battles.
English Heritage South East Events Manager, Lydia Tickner said:
“First and foremost this is a highly entertaining day out, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. We have been lucky enough to assemble some of the best riding and jousting talent worldwide. These are men who could actually face a 15th century opponent and acquit themselves favourably. We’ve also got the added twist of our new rider tackling his biggest challenge to date.”
A family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children aged 5-15 costs £24.80 and also includes admission to the Castle and grounds.
