Versatile striker Jez Conway has left Wessex Premier Cowes Sports FC to join Wessex Division 1 Newport IW FC.
Last season, Conway transferred to East Cowes Victoria, but rejoined Cowes Sports before the start of the 2024/25 season. Now, he is off to the other side of the Medina to join Newport.
Jez has made over 300 appearances for the Yachtsmen.
Newport have been looking to strengthen their firepower up front since the departure of captain and centre forward Jordan Browne for Cowes Sports before Christmas.
Newport IW announced yesterday (Tuesday):
“Jez Conway has transferred from Cowes Sports FC to Newport IW FC
“Jez has over 350 Wessex league appearances to his name between Cowes and East Cowes Vics and brings a lot of experience and quality to add to our current attacking options. Although signed as a striker, he can also play a variety of other positions, which is a boost to the squad.
“Everyone at Newport IW FC welcomes Jez and are looking forward to seeing him play in yellow and blue.”
Jez Conway told Island Echo:
“It was a tough decision leaving a club that I have played so many games for and have had great memories, but it’s time for a new challenge, and Newport was the perfect place for this.
“There’s no bad blood with Cowes, and I wish them all the luck for the rest of the season, but I’m focussed now in helping Newport push up the league. It’s been an up and down season for me, but I’m ready to kick on again and hope to be back scoring goals in a great Newport side, who have done very well this season and are in the mix for play offs.”
