Cowes Sports’ centre forward Jez Conway has joined East Cowes Vics, it has been announced. Jez is the Yachtsmen’s joint-leading goalscorer this season with 8 goals in 13 starts. This will be Jez Conway’s 3rd spell at the East Cowes club. He will join other former Cowes Sports players on the other side of the River Medina, including Ji Nash, Josh Neale, Adam Voller, Aedan Coode and – of course – captain Callum Chase. East Cowes Vics manager Alex Smith has said:
“I’m delighted to be able to announce the signing of Jez Conway to East Cowes Victoria Athletic. “Jez has been an outstanding player for Cowes Sports in the Wessex Premier League for a number of years, making his naqme as a universal player capable of covering an array of positions across the pitch. “In recent times, he’s grown into a fine front man, scoring 8 goals in 13 starts and is Cowes Sports’ joint top goalscorer this season. “This is a supereb acquisition for us and brings added experience to our rapidly improving young squad. “Jez will be available for selection for this Saturday’s home fixture vs Andover Town, and I’m sure you’ll all join me in giving him a very warm welcome.”
Jez has commented:
“Cowes is a great club and have had some unbelievable memories with them. They have a very competitive squad and with the rotation system they have I wasn’t getting the game time I want at my age. “I wish all the lads the best for the rest of the season, and I leave the club being joint top goalscorer and hoping to continue my goal scoring form under new boss Alex Smith. “I’m excited for this new challenge and hope I can bring that extra touch they need to push for the play off and help the younger players improve and develop with my experience in playing and coaching.”
Last night (Tuesday), Vics’ hopes of rising to the play-off places were dented by 5th-placed Southampton-based Millbrook. Vics were beaten 3-0, conceding their 1st goal as early as the 2nd minute. It was a miserable night for the East Cowes-based side, with midfielder Rafferty Boyd-Kerr being sent off in the 70th minute. Vics’ defeat leaves them 11th in Wessex Division 1, with 23 points from 14 games. This Saturday (2nd December), Vics welcome 2nd-from-bottom Andover Town to Beatrice Avenue.
