It’s all set to be a scorching night of jazz from Gary Plumley on Sax, Jon Thorne on double bass and new arrival in Ventnor, Nick Page on guitar (pictured). Each musician is highly acclaimed and has played with the good and the great. Their experience and status is reflected in the name they’ve chosen to play under ‘Wrath of Sages’.
Stephen Izatt of Ventnor Arts Club said:
“We’ve been trying to put this gig together for a while in response to requests from members, the musicians themselves and the desire to give our new neighbour Nick Page a run out in front of the home crowd”.
Gary played his first pro gig aged 22, touring with The Rocky Horror Show throughout England, Ireland and Germany. He later moved to London and started working with Sax Appeal where he met most of the musicians that he still works with today including such greats as Jim Mullen, Dick Morrisey, Pete King, Mornington Locket, Don Weller and Henry Lowther. Gary has toured and recorded worldwide with such artists as: George Michael, The Stereophonics, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Gary Barlow, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Ronnie Scott, Shakatak, Swing Out Sister and many more.
As a jazz double bassist Jon has played with many contemporary jazz musicians including Guy Barker, David Liebman, Ian Ballamy, Dave O’Higgins, Don Weller, Jean Toussaint, Gilad Atzmon, Ben Castle, Ed Jones, Byron Wallen, Martin Shaw, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Jonathan Gee, Anita Wardell, and Claire Teal. He has performed at Glastonbury, Montreaux Jazz, North Sea Jazz, NYC Central Park Summerstage, and the Brecon Jazz Festival.
Nick is simply one of the foremost jazz guitarists in the UK: “extremely talented, versatile and inspirational” – Alan Skidmore. “Kessel and Burrell would have relished his inventive lines” – Jazzwise.
