ISLE OF WIGHT’S FIRST EVER WING WALK TO TAKE PLACE IN MARCH IN AID OF MOUNTBATTEN HOSPICE

Islanders will have the chance to soar through the skies as part of the Isle of Wight’s very first wing-walking event next March and April. 

Mountbatten has secured an exclusive partnership, which will enable daredevil fundraisers to take on the challenge above Sandown Airport.

The initial dates of 26th and 27th March 2024 have already sold out, but 16th and 17th April have been added to the calendar (dates available and correct as of Friday 4th August).

The Island charity will be the first organisation to offer the experience on the Isle of Wight.

Registration is now open and costs £80.

Mountbatten’s Community Fundraiser, Charlotte Hornblow, says:

“We are seeing an increase in our supporters taking on a range of daring challenge events to raise funds for Mountbatten and this exclusive charity wing walk is right up there. We’re very excited to be the first to offer this opportunity to Islanders.”

Thrill-seekers raising money for Mountbatten will board vintage Boeing Stearman biplane, Ethel Dares, before taking to the skies around 500ft above the Island.

There is a minimum fundraising target of £1,000 per wing walker and, for those registering for the 26 March date, the person who raises the most in sponsorship by 16 March will be able to claim the title of being the 1st person to ever wing walk over the Island.

Andrew Black, CEO of Ethel Dares, has said:

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience to take to the skies riding the wing of our vintage biplane and we hope it will raise a huge amount of money for Mountbatten, who do such vital work for Islanders.”
