The Wessex League season has finished for Isle of Wight clubs, but there are still plenty of issues to be decided in Isle of Wight Division 1 and the Memorial Cup this Saturday.
In the semi finals of the Memorial Cup, Shanklin face East Cowes Sports at the County Ground, and Whitecroft & Barton Sports play Brading Town at Sandy Lane.
Are we to see another Shanklin and W&B final as in the Island Echo Challenge Cup?
In Isle of Wight Division 1, 2nd-from-bottom Sandown will hope to edge away from the relegation zone at Westwood Park, where they play 3rd-placed Cowes Sports Reserves. 3rd-from-bottom Oakfield will attempt to maintain the 6-point gap between themselves and Sandown by beating Binstead at Slade Road.
2 teams are relegated from Division 1.
In Combination 1, West Wight have the opportunity to go level on points with leaders W&B if they can beat Binstead at the Molehill.
On Sunday, Shanklin Ladies travel to Totton & Eling to play in the final of the Hampshire Invitational Cup against Bursledon Ladies.
Winning the trophy would be the 1st half of a possible Hampshire league Division 1 and cup double for the Shanklin side.
Shanklin Ladies joint managers Shannon Kilcullen and Kate Ednay have spoken to Island Echo about their team’s chances of coming home with the cup.
Shannon and Kate have said:
“If you were to go on league form, we are above Bursledon in the table and that some would say we were favourites.
“However, anything can happen in a cup, and it’s whichever team can deal with the occasion better that will come out on top. We just hope that it’s us this time,
“We’re looking forward to the occasion and the players deserve this opportunity having worked hard all season.”
Kick off at Testwood Stadium on Sunday is at 15:00.
