Businesses across the Isle of Wight are starting to re-open their doors from today (Monday) as the lockdown restrictions are eased across the country, with some firms trading again for the first time in 12 weeks.
It’s been 3 months since lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and it’s been an uphill battle for retailers and other local businesses since.
From today (15th June), a number of non-essential retail shops can now re-open to the public as long as they adhere to social distancing measures. However, some of the bigger chains are re-opening stores gradually, so shoppers are advised to check online about specific retailers before travelling.
Although hairdressers, beauty salons, pubs and restaurants remain closed – and will remain closed until at least 4th July – the following businesses can now trade again:
- Fashion shops
- Charity shops
- Betting shops
- Tailors, dress fitters and fashion designers
- Auction houses
- Antique stores
- Retail art galleries
- Photography studios
- Gift shops and retail spaces in theatres, museums, libraries, heritage sites and tourism sites
- Mobile phone stores
- Indoor markets
- Craft fairs
- Similar types of retail
- Zoos (but not indoor areas)
Other businesses that are already open include:
- Food retailers
- Chemists
- Hardware/homeware stores
- Car dealerships and garages

Is Game or Cex shop open? Need to update my games!
I managed to get new shoes from the lovely staff at Clarks, loved the pop socks 🙂
Then round to Fields to get a replacement belt and buy another, excellent service there as well.
The only let down was people walking in groups taking up the whole pavement.
Oh how dare they! Really! You don’t know if they are from the same family or not? You really need to get a grip of your fear ,anxiety , whatever is scaring you out of your mind ( liars ,goverment, bbc) And just enjoy your life. I have a weak immune system should be shielding ,lol ,I don’t think so. See, I’ve researched the truth, knowledge is power.

Thank you for the compliment us in Clark’s were quite nervous about re opening, especially with the new measuring and fitting process. Luckily we have had all lovely understanding customers so far. This was so nice to see, my work colleagues have also seen this, and appreciate the kind words.
The lovely lady on the door explained how many could be in the shop at any time which included staff members, very polite welcome.
Hand gel clearly visible.
The lady that served me, the one that was after size 8’s, lace up’s, black, wide fitting and high instep, not easy to please. helped greatly in sorting through many styles, after trying several styles which meant going into store room 3 times ! ! !
I didn’t just buy the one pair i needed, but 2.
I have shopped in the Newport branch for many a year now and always been treated well.
It is a pleasure to shop there. Will be bringing my partner there this Sunday, we hope, she needs some boots.
