ISLE OF WIGHT MIDWEEK FOOTBALL: YACHTSMEN SAIL THROUGH TO LAST 8 OF VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE CUP

Cowes Sports are through to the Quarter Finals of the Wessex League Cup after disposing of Division 1 Alresford Town at Arlebury Park. The Yachtsmen began the game strongly with Ryan Oatley having a header cleared off the line early in the game. Shortly before the half time interval, Cowes took the lead when Oatley volleyed in a George Colson free kick from inside the 6-yard box (0-1). In the 2nd half, the Yachtsmen added a 2nd when an Alresford defender headed a Caleb Neale strike into his own goal (0-2). 7 minutes from full time, the home side pulled a goal back through Andy Turner (1-2). Cowes, however, kept their slender 1-goal advantage until the end of 90 minutes to ensure passage to the next round of the League Cup.
