East Cowes Vics have boosted their chances of reaching the Wessex Division 1 play off places by trouncing Fawley 0-4 at the Eight Wealth Arena this evening (Wednesday). Before the game, manager Alex Smith had said:
“Fawley is always a tough place to go, but we’re in a good place after a top performance Saturday. We have a very strong squad travelling and are ready for the test.”
Vics were strengthened by the return of striker Charlie Marsek, who has been absent through injury since the 5th game of the season. The East Cowes side began brightly with returning midfielder and dead-ball specialist Harri Taylor opening the scoring in the 15th minute with a trademark free kick (0-1). Experienced striker Ji Nash then added a 2nd for the Beatrice Avenue boys (0-2). Jacob Reynolds – who scored a hat trick on Saturday – put the Island side 3 goals to the good by converting a penalty to give the away side a 3-goal advantage going into the half time break(0-3). Half time: Fawley 0-3 East Cowes Vics Vics added a 4th to their tally through a late 2nd half own goal (0-4) to end the game with a comprehensive win and return across the Solent with all 3 points.
