The Isle of Wight Festival says that at this moment in time the event will go ahead in 2020 as planned.
With talk of large gatherings being banned by the Government in a bid to slow down the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, organisers of the annual festival have issued a statement.
The following statement has been published on the official Isle of Wight Festival website:
“At this time, the Isle of Wight Festival 2020 is going ahead as planned. Please be assured that the safety and health of all staff and visitors, is our main priority and we are implementing recommendations and instructions appropriately.
“We are closely monitoring official guidance from the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, UK Government, local public health authorities and are working with event promoters and organisers as information evolves.
“If you are attending, please follow the most up to date information on the Coronavirus that is available”.
Should the Government ban large gatherings – as has been the case in parts of Europe – it is entirely possible that the festival will not take place in June as planned. Any such decision will be taken at the highest level.

Stupid idea to let it go a head under the circumstances of what is going on with the CV….thinking of money instead of people’s health
50k + people
Virus threatening world
Unhygienic facilities
Filthy toilets
What could possibly go wrong….
Hopefully nothing, but my bet is there will be a lot of spare tickets
Money Money Money, At this moment in time, Money has decided the Festival will go ahead, Unless the Government make it illegal, Money decides it will go ahead. Common sense and decency comes a very poor second.
But can’t shake hands at a football match…….. has the Island lost all sense?
Nope…the world isn’t stopping indefinitely and this may have dwindled to nothing by then
Better to be business as usual, unless we get to may time and things show no sign of improvement.
You`ve got another 4.5 years of this incompetence.Corporate democracies operate FOR big buisiness BY big buisiness.
Did the island have any sense to lose?
I’ll take the advice of the World Health Organisation, Public Health England and UK Government over the advice of Common Sense Kev any day.
Great news!! It will all have died down in June! Worth the risk anyway, unless you’re over 65 it’s just a bit of flu. Shame they’re not saying it won’t be Impossible to cancel! Can’t wait to party All Night Long!
I suppose there are people like you around, but I would like to think you are just putting that comment out to achieve a reaction, you can’t really be that stupid or could you be? I sincerely hope not.
They predict it will be at its peak in june
A festival i was going to this month has been cancelled, hammerfest, first one i’v heard of stopping because of the virus, personally if this thing is still out of control in june they should do the right thing and cancel this too
Always money before people, so why the surprise.
Have already said it, but likely it wasn’t put up.
With so many elderly living here, it seems selfish to have the festival this year.
Can you really imagine the crowded big top, where you have to push through a solid wall of people to get in or out, that anyone sneezing will do so in a tissue, then force their way to find a bin and then ‘wash’ their hands, as the taps only have cold water, and about a half a mile walk away.
People are bombed out on drugs, drink, and will not wash hands or use tissues and in hot sweaty crowded tents, many will go home with more than the usual std this year, and worse still many of OUR elderly will die horribly just so some have had a weekend of drugs, drink and casual doo de doos’.
A selfish world now, for sure.
I love the festival and always go, but I think it ought to be banned for one year.
I guess the promoter has paid up for the acts and doesn’t want to take a hit.
Pointless seay – elderly people go shopping and walk around town touching things, just like everyone else – they collect pensions from the post office every week in a long queue – they won’t be at a festival, so stopping the festival won’t change the risk to elderly people at all.
Once something is running free throughout a country then stopping large gatherings is pointless, as people will just simply go to their local bars, clubs etc and spread it there anyhow.
Well done couldn’t agree more so much for health and safety well done iow council for looking out for its residents
Nearly all of the comment below are driven by classic “its not my fault” syndrome. The decision to attend the festival is entirely yours, if you don’t feel safe to go then DON’T GO!. You shouldn’t have sit around with your thumbs in your mouths waiting for someone to tell you. Bot the I suppose if you decide to go and then get ill, you couldn’t sue anyone could you.
This venue for the sake of all the elderly living on this island should be stoped owing to health and safety
Can you imagine drunk people washing there hand s going into supermarkets placing there hands over door handles shopping trolleys even washing there hands after they use the loo ,shops , ect ect
This virus could spread very quickly throughout the island
Why is a lot of venues stoped if more than 500-1000 crowds like football matches Grand Prix
Is it the organisers do not want to lose there profit for the sake of a life on this island
Think this is going to backfire big time on Boris, trying to stop the peak until a later date when temp warms up a bit, reckons there be more beds available due to people recovering from normal winter bugs, Flu, ect. Every or most countries have banned mass gatherings. Not borris, just says Wash your hands. How many people are going to lock them selves away for 5 tp 10 days if they get headache and temp ect, when there on zero hrs contract or self employed, they rekon 1000shave the virus anyway already. Could go on but finger is aching. All be safe, wash those hands!!
Surprise surprise..we are thinking of the health and safety of all our people attending…..right of course…at the moment we have only one confirmed case in isolation due to demographics…of course that could easily change but suddenly bring in fifty or sixty thousand and well…nothing to do with money of course.
