Bringing a mix of national, international and local musicians, songwriters and speakers to the Island, Lionheart Festival, the Island’s unique Christian festival, returns next weekend.
The lineup includes Rob Westall, Noel Robertson, Zac Carpenter, Rebecca Aladiran, Sam Lane, Chip Kendall, Luke Wareham, Danny Oates, Lou Fellingham, Steve Tebb, Alun Leppitt, Tom Smith and local worship bands too, whilst speakers Luke Cartwright, Wynelle Cowdery and Paul Manwaring will also take to the stage.
The Festival runs each day from Friday 14th July to Sunday 16th July 2023 with something for all ages including crèche, Bouncy Castle/slide plus organised children’s and young people’s activities with experienced volunteers with safe guarding certificates.
This festival is Christian based and supported by Churches and businesses across the Island with the aim to bring The life changing Message of Hope and New life in Jesus Christ to all.
It is also a time to relax with friends and family and enjoy the outdoor environment together, food and drink stalls, exhibition tent, camping area and car park, buses run regularly past the site.
Trained volunteers are on site to assist you to enjoy and experience this event to the full. The event is to be held at County Showground on Newport Road on the way to Cowes.
Lionheart is a non-profit charity therefore the booking fees are low with reduced rates for students and OAPs. For information and booking contact [email protected]
UPDATE ON 14th JULY – Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast the event has been postponed. A new date hasn’t yet been organised.
The first Christian festival was back in July 1987. It was called WIGHTLIGHT and was staged at Keith Mew’s farm in Sandford.
It wasn’t the first time Keith’s farm was known for promoting the Christian message. Keith had placards along the side of the road, ‘JESUS IS LORD’, except, as you got near the entrance to the farm, another sign said, ‘CLOSED ON SUNDAY’.
I don’t think it was intentional to make a joke, but it ended up on the BBC1 tv programme, ‘That’s Life’ with Esther Ransen.
