Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has visited East Cowes-based boatbuilder Aluminium Marine Consultants to tour the factory and meet with Rob Stewart and his staff.
Bob met with owner Rob at the company’s shipyard at Venture Quays and the pair discussed the potential for a marine engineering school on the Isle of Wight, boat building opportunities in the Far East and the importance of shipbuilding to the Island.
AMC’s site next to Red Funnel’s East Cowes terminal is set to be demolished to make way for the expansion of the ferry marshalling yard, but the company will continue to trade on the Isle of Wight.
Bob said:
“It was great to meet Rob and his talented staff at their shipyard and discuss important issues with them. The industry needs to have the right facilities along the Medina to thrive.
“I am a big supporter of shipbuilding on the Island. It can become a major part of the economy offering even more highly skilled jobs and attracting talented young people to the Island – that’s why I was fascinated to hear about Rob’s idea for an Island-based marine engineering school.”
