The Crown Prosecution Service has issued reassurance that they do not email witnesses to attend court following the circulation of a scam email to a number of Islanders.
The email, which highlights the term ‘You’ve been witness summoned to court’, has been received by Islanders today, asking them to click a ‘start time and case details’ link for an appearence at Central London County Court.
A spokesperson for the CPS has said:
“We are aware that a number of people have received emails which falsely claim to be from the Crown Prosecution Service, including a summons to appear as a witness at court.
“The CPS does not email witnesses to summon them to court. Anyone receiving such an email should delete it.”
